Unchanging Goodness
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love ensures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100:5
Fast paced and ever changing. That’s how I’d describe life today especially as a stay at home mom of two. One moment my children are sharing and happy the next they can’t stand each other. One day I feel confident and capable the next, I’m struggling with anxiety and insecurities. One moment it’s okay to act one way then next day it is the complete opposite. Look at anything around us. Opinions are constantly changing. Technology advancements, fashion changes, music styles, home constructions, the list goes on and on. You name it; it has changed in some shape or form.
The women’s bible study is going through the book “In His Image” by Jen Wilkin. One thing I read recently left me a little shook.
“Not only is God infinitely good, but he is immutably good, unchangingly good. His goodness undergoes no increase or decline, nor does it waver…God does not, cannot and need not improve with age. He is as good as he ever has been or ever will be. Perfectly good. Utterly good.”
Wow! You might have heard people in church circles say “God is good” to which the response is “all the time”. I used to think this was just a robotic response kind of like how you should say “you’re welcome” after thank you. But when you think about it, it is completely true. God’s goodness from the beginning to the end is exactly the same and never needs improvement or change. He is good. He doesn’t need the applause of an audience or the likes on social media to know he is doing good even though, he is completely worthy of it.
I’ve been through hardships, heartbreaks and tragedy where I have been so angry with how God is letting my life unfold. The ramifications from Adam and Eve are heavy. Thank goodness that in His goodness, we have a perfect Savior! But just because I don't feel it doesn’t mean God isn’t good. What brings me comfort is knowing that when I get wrapped up in my feelings and emotions, the attributes of God like his goodness won’t change nor will they ever. No one else can promise that and that is even more reason to put our complete trust in Him and Him alone.
So maybe today, it isn’t a “good” day, maybe it hasn’t been. We can rest on the unchanging God that won’t be swayed by our emotions, our sin or even the devil himself. He is good and will always be.
